Incoming Freshman, New Students
 Incoming Freshman, New Students
Each spring, 8th grade band and orchestra students in Brevard County should plan for their transition to the challenging and well-rounded music program. Satellite High School boasts 58 years of superior-rated music teaching experience that cannot be matched anywhere else in the State of Florida!

Since students need a fine arts credit to graduate from high school in Florida, we encourage you to continue with your music studies at Satellite. The SHS Instrumental Music Program is the only program that can offer ensembles of three band classes, three orchestras, three jazz ensembles, chamber winds and an AP theory class.

Step 1: Decide if you are attending as a standard high school student or a Satellite Academy of Fine Arts student.

Step 2: If you are interested in the Academy, and submit by the February 12 deadline.

Step 3: Expect to hear about your application within 30 days.

Step 4: Students will be placed in the appropriate level ensemble through a no pressure audition/interview process held in May. This is a chance for the directors to meet students and is not an intimidating experience in any way. Students will be asked to play scales, something from their current 8th grade music, and perhaps something to sightread. No one is ever turned away, so you will be in one of our ensembles. Let the directors know at audition time whether you are also interested in jazz band.

Step 5: All incoming instrumental music students should make plans to attend the Instrumental Music Registration Day on May 30th from 8:00 am- 5:00 pm. At this time you will take care of important requirements that include:
  1. Turn in notarized field trip forms for travel to many festivals and for band students, football games at other schools.
  2. Complete fitting for concert and marching attire.
