Band Program
The Satellite High School Band Department is one of the finest in the country as demonstrated through our designationas a State Music Demonstration School and our numerous invited performances throughout the United States.

The ensembles have performed to rave reviews by adjudicators and clinicians alike for their approach to performance standards, quality and beauty of sound, comprehensive teaching, eclectic programming and superb music making beyond that of the typical, standard high school.

Rehearsal and study of Solo and Ensemble literature is a core component of the program and Satellite ranks at the top of the State for participation in Solo and Ensemble Festivals.

Satellite offers 3 levels of band:
Wind Ensemble is the advanced ensemble playing cutting edge literature.
Symphonic Band performs Grade 4 and 5 literature and is often mistaken for a "top performing ensemble" at a traditional high school.
Concert Band performs grade 3 and 4 literature and is our entry-level ensemble.

Wind Ensemble
The Wind Ensemble is known for performing cutting edge literature not attempted in traditional high school band programs. The ensemble has been noted for its technical facility, beauty of sound and most importantly its incredible maturity and musicianship. The ensemble consistently receives Superior ratings and standing ovations from adjudication panels.

The Wind Ensemble has been honored two years in a row as National Winners in the National Wind Band Honors Project. Satellite High School was the only Florida school recognized in the 2008 competition. Seventy-five of the finest bands in the nation entered the competition. Recordings were judged during the summer with winners announced on September 16, 2008 by nationally recognized adjudicators. The Satellite Wind Ensemble is the only band "East of the Mississippi" to receive this honor!

In 2008 the Wind Ensemble was invited to Georgia to perform for the National Band Association/College Band Directors National Association Southern Conference. Many guest conductors and clinicians grace the podium for the Wind Ensemble. The ensemble has had selections written for and dedicated to them by our affectionately known,"Conductor Emeritus" and friend Mr. Joseph Kreines.

Symphonic Band
The Symphonic Band is the intermediate level band at Satellite High School. This ensemble plays grade level 4 and 5 music and has garnered superior ratings and raves from adjudicators state wide for their sensitive performances and musicianship.

This ensemble is often mistaken for a "top" ensemble in typical, standard high schools. The "team teaching" aspect of this ensemble provides for smaller ensemble work, solo and outstanding student to instructor ratio. Entry is by audition.

Concert Band
Concert Band is the entry-level ensemble at Satellite High School. This ensemble performs grade 3 and 4 level music. This ensemble has also garnered superior ratings from adjudicators and are well known throughout the state for strong fundamentals, beauty of sound and musical line.

The ensemble is introduced to and refines the "Satellite Sound." This ensemble also has all the benefits of the team teaching concept. There is no audition for the ensemble, however there is a chair placement audition.

Marching Band
Our Curriculum, Marching Band
The Marching Scorps have been entertaining crowds at District Festivals and football games for years. We utilize costumes, acting abilities, the best music literature, props and amazing performance techniques to wow audiences year after year. Many Brevard residents attend District Marching Festival just to see what Satellite will do next!

Marching Band starts with the annual the week before school begins -- just one of the many Brevard County traditions started here at Satellite High School. During this time we learn marching basics, show music and show design. This is a fun week as well, with snow cones served at the conclusion of morning and afternoon practices, themed dress up days and fantastic prizes awarded daily. The week concludes with a performance of the show that has been learned and a beach cookout for all the students and parents in our music family!

The Friday before school starts will be our annual trip to Islands of Adventure in Orlando. Once school starts rehearsals are:
  • Tuesday 6 - 8:30 pm
  • Thursday 4 - 6 pm
These times enable you to work with teachers after school and to attend any club or sports meetings you might have. The band performs at all football games, District Marching Festival and other invitation only events.
