Marching Band & Band Camp Facts & Info

When is Marching Band Camp?

Usually 2 weeks before school starts
For school year 2010/2011 Camp will be July 26-30.
NEW TIME: 1 pm - 9 pm

Who must attend Band Camp?
Band Camp is mandatory for all students marching

Where do students eat on the full day rehearsals?
Students may bring their own lunch to camp and eat on the outside cafeteria patio or the breezeway. Many students will go with their upper class section leader or band officer to the plaza where there are many "fast food" choices. This is also a great time for building friendships and camaraderie.

When does Marching Band rehearse?
Tuesday 6:00-8:30 pm, Thursday 4:00-6:00 pm

When does Marching Band perform?
At all Friday night football games, FBA Marching Festival (Oct. 24, 2009) the fun filled Founder's Day Parade, the Melbourne Christmas Light Parade and sometimes special invitation only events in Orlando.

Who performs in Marching Band?
Wind Ensemble, Symphonic Band and most of Concert Band. In addition there are many Orchestra and Chorus students who wish to be part of what many consider the most entertaining marching band in Florida!

When does Marching Band end?
Marching band no longer practices after our FBA Marching Festival (10/24/09). We still have two Friday football games; however we will not rehearse for them after the festival.

Is Marching Band graded?
Yes it is a percentage of your classroom grade

Does the Marching Band take any trips?
YES!! Unlike some schools, we travel to all our away football games. We also take a trip to Islands of Adventure in Orlando and sometimes we travel to special invited performances in Florida and neighboring states. Additionally, the band, orchestra and jazz bands travel to performances throughout the school year. Recent venues include: Georgia, Chicago, Salt Lake City and many locations in Florida.

Are there any other social activities scheduled?
We have an annual movie night together. In addition many section leaders/officers plan lots of parties and get-togethers for their sections.

We have the Satellite 36 year tradition of a Morning Breakfast together the day before District Festival and our celebratory Chili Party Night immediately following Festival. These are celebrations that have been copied by many of the county high schools but you will be part of the originators!

Are there auditions for Marching Band?
There are no auditions for inclusion in Marching Band. Being a member of the program gives you exclusive rights to this exciting ensemble!

There are auditions for seat placement within the bands, orchestras and jazz ensembles. Students not within the Satellite zoned district need to contact the Instrumental Music Office at 779-2000 ext 4000, for specific information. Satellite is an open school and can accept students from around Brevard County.

Can I play in Sports or be in clubs and still be in Band?
Yes!!! The only sports that compete on Friday night are Varsity Football and Varsity Cheerleading. All other coaches at Satellite are very flexible and work within our rehearsal schedule. In fact, varsity football and cheerleading students have participated in half time performances. Many music students are presidents and leaders in the various clubs and activities Satellite has to offer.

Does the Instrumental Music Department have car pools set up?
Yes! We have sign ups for car pools for students from other areas of town during our instrumental music registration days.
